Robert Pattinson #6 Man of the Year

December - 16 - 2009 Comments

From MTV News: Which stars had the biggest year? All this week, we’ll be unveiling our top nine men and women of 2009, counting down to the #1 man and woman on Friday. Well, here’s a sneak peak at lucky #6….Robert Pattinson!

In 2009, all eyes were on RPattz. Despite only releasing one movie, there were few people whose face sold more magazines, whose every word made more of a ripple and whose public appearances caused such a stir. Under such pressure, a lot of 23-year-old actors would end up getting into trouble, indulging to the point of excess and disappointing their fans. But somehow, the uniquely suited-for-stardom Robert Pattinson took it all with a good-natured grin and self-deprecating charm. In “Twilight” and beyond, his future seems so bright that he’ll likely be sparkling for quite some time. d?

2009 Highlights: We all know Rob had a busy 2009, and everybody had their own thoughts on what he should do after “Twilight.” Few saw his first move coming, however, as he dropped out of the indie flick “Parts Per Billion,” leaving producer/star Rosario Dawson sad but promising the show would go on. In February, he showed up at the Oscars and stole attention away from stars as big as Brad and Angelina. Despite expressing fears that he might become “Twilighted out” while shooting “New Moon” and “Eclipse” back-to-back, he nevertheless got back to work as Edward Cullen.

Taylor Lautner #4 Man of the Year

December - 16 - 2009 Comments

Uh-oh, someone is ahead of Robert Pattinson? MTV names their #4 Man of the Year and Taylor Lautner beats Robert Pattinson by trois! Check the article for the conjectures…

In early 2008, li’l Taylor Lautner was getting his learner’s permit, hoping “Twilight” might get him some attention, and trying on his itchy Jacob wig for the first time. Now he’s on the cover of dozens of magazines, adored by fans and one of the hottest actors in Hollywood. Not bad for a 17-year-old — and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

2009 Highlights: As the calendar page turned to 2009, there were few entertainment stories as compelling as Taylor Lautner’s crusade to convince the “Twilight” powers-that-be to employ his buff new bod for “New Moon,” with co-stars like Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser and Kristen Stewart among those firmly in his corner. The 17-year-old “Twilight” star spoke extensively about his dedication to the material and his workout regime, which delighted fans and convinced Chris Weitz that his casting search for Jacob was over before it really began.

Once he happily got back to work on the “Twilight Saga,” Taylor surfaced only rarely to do things like unveiling first-look footage from “New Moon” at the MTV Movie Awards, or arriving at the Video Music Awards to debut an expanded trailer alongside co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Keeping his nose to the grindstone, Taylor left it up to others to determine whether he was “swoon-worthy.”

One person who undoubtedly did swoon in 2009, however, was Taylor Swift. The country superstar struck up a supposed relationship with Lautner that built steadily as they shot the upcoming romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day,” a film in which their characters spent an entire day reportedly making out. Unfortunately, it also placed him at ground zero for one of the year’s hugest controversies, as he presented Swift with a Video Music Award then watched as her acceptance speech was interrupted by Kanye West.

With the start of the “New Moon” promotional tour including a stop at Hot Topic, the young actor proved his movie-star powers when he arrived to fans chanting his name at the “New Moon” premiere. He also managed to land on the cover of both Rolling Stone (wet T-shirt and all) and Entertainment Weekly, and graced the couch of Conan O’ Brien.

Getting back to work, Taylor started filming “Eclipse,” and dropped by San Diego’s Comic-Con to share near-kisses with Kristen. He helped unveil new footage from the movie and gave Bella a bike ride she’d never forget, and hung out with the geeks. Getting nerdy with the comic book geeks for the second consecutive year, Taylor seemed to be ascending nicely into his newfound status as a top-tier “Twilight” star.

As the flick hit theaters, Taylor told us exclusively about the “dark times” in retaining his role, what happened to all of his missing clothes, his love of fan-made trailers and why he won’t translate the key phrase Jacob speaks in Quileuete.

Sure enough, his casting proved to be the right move, as “New Moon” not only broke the midnight screening record previously held by “Harry Potter,” but also went on to become the third-highest opening weekend on record. So convincing was his portrayal of Jacob, in fact, that some Twilighters thought he deserved an Oscar nomination. Now, with “Eclipse” set for release next year, and the possible two-movie split of “Breaking Dawn” on the horizon, Taylor’s future only looks brighter.

Some of you might be thinking: It was a great year for the “Twilight” stars, but how could Taylor finish higher in our rankings than Kristen or Rob? Well, for starters, his stock had a further journey to soar, and soar it did. Now he’s a household name who recently achieved the honor of hosting “Saturday Night Live,” the first “Twilight” star to do so. He spent the night making us laugh and partying into the wee hours, and now Hollywood seems on the verge of giving the muscle-bound rising star his own franchise. These days, it seems like it’s Taylor’s world — and we’re all just living in it.

Which stars had the biggest 2009? Over the next week, we’ll be unveiling our top nine most newsworthy, controversial and fascinating men and women of the year. We based our list on factors like music sales, box-office performance, MTVNews.com headlines and traffic, overall reach (crossover singles, appearances in movies, licensing of songs for commercials, clothing lines, etc.), plus X-factors like “impact” and “buzz.” (And no, President Barack Obama didn’t make the list — we’ll leave that to the folks at Time.) This is by no means an exact science, but we think the list we’ve put together represents the men and women who helped make 2009 the most exciting and memorable 12 months in recent history.

We’ll be rolling out our list of the Top 9 Men and Women of 2009 two per day until Friday, when we unveil MTV News’ Man and Woman of the year! As always, we also want to know what you think, so weigh in with comments below, or upload them to Your.MTV.com!

Peter Facinelli Votes for TWO Breaking Dawns

December - 16 - 2009 Comments

Somehow it seems unsurprising that Peter Facinelli, who got a total reboot of his career with “The Twilight Saga,” would like “Breaking Dawn” to make it to the big screen. When MTV News spoke to Peter at Z100’s Jingle Ball Friday, he shared a full wish-list of things he would like in regards to the fourth (and, according to him, fifth) installments of the series.

First and foremost, Pete would like to see this novel split into two films. “I would love to have them break it into two parts because it’s such a thick book,” he said. “I think that’d be fantastic to split into two, ’cause there’s so much information. Whatever happens, I’m sure it will be good.”

While we have already detailed why we don’t think two movies would be such a good idea for the fluff-filled novel, we do agree with Peter’s director choice (as does Kristen Stewart). “I’d love to seeChris Weitz back,” he said.

He added as to whether there’s actually a chance Chris would agree, “I don’t know. I mean, I know he actually has another film he’s doing right now, so your guess is as good as mine. I’m sure they’ll get somebody very capable. I mean, we’ve had some pretty fantastic directors so far.”

Two films and Chris as director complete a “Breaking Dawn” checklist most fans would agree with, and the scene Peter most looks forwards to shooting is another fan favorite. “You know, there’s this scene where Bella has the baby,” Peter said, jokingly adding, “Like any other doctor, I’m not there at the time. I think I’m on the ninth playing a round of golf, but it’s an interesting scene. I’d like to see how that’s shot.”

Unfortunately, this is only speculation and wishful thinking thus far, as Peter said he hasn’t heard any “Breaking Dawn” news from Summit. “Usually the fans know before me. I’ve been combing the Web sites to see if we’re doing a fourth movie,” Peter said. “I haven’t heard or seen [a script yet]. I think everybody’s just kind of still on the ‘New Moon’ high.”

New Moon Star Justin Chon Intervews Muse

December - 15 - 2009 Comments

Justin Chon from the “Twilight Saga” (aka Eric) busts an interview with Muse. Here it is straight from the human’s mouth….

Hello. This is Justin Chon from “The Twilight Saga” (you may know me better as Eric). MTV invited to interview Muse and hang back stage at KROQ’s annual Almost Acoustic Christmas concert. It was my first time being backstage at any concert, so I was extremely excited to see what it was all about. I have to say that I haven’t had that much fun in a long long time.

I left my place at around 7 p.m. and headed over the the Gibson Amphitheater. When I got there, I was able to park in the VIP area because I was with the one and only MTV.

Once I got to the event, it was absolute mayhem. There were so many people in the backstage reception area. Famous people were just perusing about like nobody’s business. I met up with the MTV crew and we started our little adventure. I saw my friend Joe Hahn from Linkin Park. Right away had a little problem because he heard me mention my favorite band was Muse. (I settled it by saying they were my second-favorite.)

Once we got inside, I was able to interview people like Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin from “Superbad”), Dr. Drew, Deryck Whibley from Sum 41 and a bunch of others. However, the fun really didn’t start until I went back to where the band dressing rooms were. I ended up taking shots with Slightly Stoopid and hanging with the members of Phoenix. Chris from Vampire Weekend came up to me and asked, “Are you that guy from ‘Twilight?’” and I said yes. He then said “Let’s take a picture.” I was like, “What?! You’re the rock star!”

Later, I got to catch 311 and, at long last, Muse’s performance. They were absolutely amazing. After their set, I went backstage and there was a whole mess of people outside the dressing room trying to get a chance to talk or take a picture with them. But of course because I was with MTV, I got full access to the band and interviewed them. I was a little nervous before I went in but I did my tantric breathing and ended up being fine.

The interview went smooth as butter. After the interview was over I took a picture with them and tried not to look too excited. All in all, it was a night I won’t soon forget.

Kristen Stewart Quoted

December - 15 - 2009 Comments

I’ve been searching for some news on Kristen – and came across this best of quotes from her.  Love it…even though I want the dish, it’s kind of nice that she’s keeping herself in check.  Maybe she’s too busy with Robert Pattinson?  Ha, well, maybe not…maybe she’s mourning.  But whatever, it’s kinda refreshing to not have the leading lady making a scene of herself.  Thanks to thefrisky.com for this great find!

Kristen-Stewart-111709-mThe media loves shy, awkward, lippy Kristen Stewart. Yes, we love her! She’s shell-shocked and seemingly reticent, yet she still says the darnedest things. This week on “Conan,” she snapped our attention right back where it belongs—on her—as she overshared: “I think it’s weird that we have underwear with Taylor’s face on it.”

Here are some more of Kristen’s best quotes.

On speculation about romance between her and Robert Pattinson:

“OK, we are. We aren’t. I’m a lesbian.” [OK!]

On her target audience:

“I don’t want to make movies for kids, and I don’t want to make movies for adults either.” [Movie Tome]

On acting in “The Panic Room”:

“Wearing pajamas for four months was weird, but very comfortable.” [Kidz World]

On the supernatural:

“Ever since I’ve been a kid, I’ve been absolutely, totally scared of ghosts. Like whenever I would run around my house terrified when I was five years old, it was always because of ghosts.” [Movies Online]

On the success of “Twilight:”

“It’s all about human analyzation, whatever, so the fact that we can share something so personally with so many people is a first for me. I mean I usually do tiny little movies that nobody cares about, so this is pretty incredible.” [S TV]

On Baz Luhrmann and Rob Patinson singing a karaoke song together:

“It was a talky one so they both could sort of talk to each other, and they were riffing back and forth … They were looking longingly into each other’s eyes.”[E Online]

On her fans’ familiarity with her:

“You’re so connected to people and they all know how to get to you, and everyone knows who you are, so explicitly. They think they know you. It’s like, ‘You really think you know me? I don’t know me! How do you know I’m not different around someone else?’ ” [USA Today]

On her interaction with fans:

“I just have to stand there for a minute and hope that I can keep a smile on my face, and hope that I don’t run off at the mouth and say something stupid that they’ll put me on a cross for.” [About.com: Hollywood Movies]

On why she won’t talk about her relationship with Robert:

“I’m not going to give the fiending an answer. I know that people are really funny about ‘Well, you chose to be an actor, why don’t you just f—ing give your whole life away?! Can I have your firstborn child?’” [EW]

Bryce Howard says Eclipse Finale is the Biggest

December - 14 - 2009 Comments

Bryce Howard, who replaces Rachelle LeFevre in the next Twilight movie, “Eclipse,” is on the road promoting one of her movies. But it seems all anyone can ask her about is Twilight! Good for us, not for her movie, whatever it is…

When MTV News got a chance to chat with Bryce Dallas Howard last week while she was promoting her new movie, ”The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond,” an obvious question seemed to be to ask her what her favorite scene to film in next year’s “Eclipse” was.

Unsurprisingly, and like many of the other “Eclipse” stars, Bryce said her favorite part of filming was the epic showdown at the end of the film between Victoria and her newborn vampire army and the double whammy of Cullens and werewolves.

“There’s quite an extraordinary finale,” she said. “That was very fun to do.”

Apparently Bryce was very cryptic about the scene, and didn’t want to give away too many details. She did say that the finale would trump the ballet studio scene in ”Twilight” and the made-for-movie fight with the Volturi at the end of ”New Moon.”

“The producers were saying it’s the biggest spectacle filmed thus far in this franchise,” she said. “There’s a newborn army that’s been raised for battle. It’s a true battle scene.”

But something I don’t understand is why the details around this fight are supposed to be such a big secret? Why the need to keep hush-hush on the scene? Anyone who has read “Eclipse” (and let’s face it, that’s about 99.9 percent of the audience reading this post right now) will already know how the story ends and what the battle scene entails.

If anything, giving away more details on the scene could only help the movie’s case, because maybe news that the end of the movie would be the most badass good vampire/werewolf/bad vampire showdown in cinematic history would help sustain the box office for the third film’s income a bit better than “New Moon” (in less than a month, “New Moon” went from a $140 million opening weekend to only $8 million this past weekend).

Granted, Bryce is new to the game, and maybe doesn’t understand how hyped everyone is for the third movie in ”The Twilight Saga”. Maybe next time, she’ll want to give away juicy tidbits about “Eclipse”. It’s the RPattz/KStew romance that needs to be kept hush-hush, right?

Michael Sheen is Aro

December - 13 - 2009 Comments

I was very interested in seeing what the Volutri looked like in New Moon, I imagined them in a very specific way. And, to be honest, was rather disappointed when I first saw the casting. HOWEVER, when I saw Michael Sheen as Aro, I was surprised how much I did like him. It was a nice balance of humor and ferocity….he kind of was like a vampiric Napolean.

vamp-sheenx-large

If Michael Sheen isn’t doing something biographical, chances are it’s supernatural.
He has left his mark on the horror genre as Lucian, the leader of the werewolf rebellion against the aristocratic vampires in the Underworld trilogy.
But now he’s switching teams as Aro, the head of the Italian vampire cult known as the Volturi in New Moon, the latest big-screen chapter of the Twilight.
“I wanted to see how the other half lived,” Sheen explains with a grin. “Or unlived.”

Actually, Lily, his 10-year-old daughter with Underworld actress Kate Beckinsale, had something to do with his decision. “She is very, very into the books. I know how obsessive she was about them, so I was already predisposed wanting to be in it.”

After he read the first two books himself, Sheen realized why the literary phenom causes teen girls to swoon. “What it has tapped into, at least in the first book, is how it feels to fall in love for the first time. I don’t think you have to be a girl to relate to that.

“The second book captures the utter desolation of losing that first love. I went through that myself, and Stephenie Meyer invokes that brilliantly.”

So what kind of vamp is Aro? “I suppose the Volturi are like the royal family of vampires, and while he is more their spokesperson in the books, he is their leader in the film. He’s got a sort of regality about him.

“I like the way director Chris Weitz describes him. On the surface, he is very charming and very warm, sort of likable and soft. But underneath, you get the sense he is a psychopathic killer. I love playing with that idea.”

Ashley Greene New Interview

December - 12 - 2009 Comments

Ashley Greene you are so cute.  That’s why we are dedicating this post to you and your interview with … the Boise News.  Hopefully you weren’t in Boise!

ashley-green-alice-jackson-rathbone-jasper-photosShe’s widely known as Alice Cullen, vampire sister to Bella’s love, Edward. ByTwilight, she’s Alice with a bit of a dark side. But by day, she’s Ashley Greene — and she’s definitely a bright spot. We met up with Ashley to talk about the cast, the fame, and of course, the latest of the Twilight saga films, New Moon.

Q: How was it different filming New Moon as opposed to the originalTwilight?

A: For me, personally, I just had so much more fun, and I was so much more relaxed and could enjoy myself more. We had already established relationships with each other, so we were this little family. And then, of course, I got to go to Italy, which isn’t too shabby. Waking up to the Tuscany countryside is incredible! I ate lots of pasta.

Q: Who were you closest to on the set?

A: I’m close with different cast members for different reasons. Me and Kellan [Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen] have always been close. Unfortunately, Rachelle LaFevre isn’t doing the third film, but we were very close on the second film. We were the people who were always like, “Do you want to go out to eat?” and gather everyone together. She and I always worked out together.

Q: What would you say sets New Moon apart from the first film?

A: I know everyone was kind of worried about Edward not being in the movie, but you definitely see some Rob Pattinson, and you really get to see the love triangle between Edward, Bella and Jacob. We also really developed the relationship between Alice and Bella as well, because you didn’t get to that very much in the first one. There were some complaints about, “They’re supposed to be best friends, and you don’t even see them together.” So, we hit on that a little more too.

Q: What has been your craziest fan encounter?

A: There is one person I saw in Vancouver, Italy and London. I was like, “Oh, my gosh, you’re a well-traveled fan!” It’s always craziest when I’m with the guys, because it’s such a female-driven fan base that they just go crazy and cry and shake and scream. With me, it’s just that they want a hug or a picture. Everyone wants to be my best friend because everyone wants to be Alice’s best friend because she’s such a likeable character. That’s actually pretty cool.

Robert Pattinson in on the Superhero Action

December - 12 - 2009 Comments

Taylor Lautner is Max Steel, Kellan Lutz wants Captain America…why wouldn’t Robert Pattinson want in on the Superhero Action. Who could he, would he want to be? … Magento… huh? How could a face this cute be bad…and covered in a weird metal helmet. Pass.
robert_pattinson

After portraying a vampire in “Twilight” and its sequel, Robert Pattinson has considered about playing a superhero. According to Comic Book Movie, when the British actor was interviewed by Frank Boyle, he admitted that he wants to be Magneto, a villain character with the power of magnetism from “X-Men” world.

“Well yeah [laughs], I think everyone wonders about that sometimes,” he said when asked about whether or not he ever thought about playing a superhero in the future. He then added, “My little cousin tells me I look like Magneto so I guess thats who I should probably play [laughs].”

Unfortunately, Pattinson may have no chance to offer himself to play his dream character anytime soon as the film, “Magneto”, is reportedly at the back of Marvel’s queue. Though David Goyer has written the script for the film, producer Lauren Shuler Donner said, “I’m not sure that film is going to be made. The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have to stand back and decide which ones to make.”

Although there is only a little possibility to see Robert Pattinson in the superhero film, his acting can next be seen in “Remember Me”, which will hit U.S. theaters on March 12, 2010. He additionally has been set to star in drama movie “Bel Ami”.

Taylor Lautner is Men’s Health Coverguy

December - 12 - 2009 Comments

taylor-lautner-mens-health-cover-bigTaylor Lautner graces yet another cover.  He is December 2009 Men’s Health Coverguy.  Ooh lala.  He dishes about how to build muscle fast and monster abs.  The kindly folks at Men’s Health also gave us a video to drool over.

Taylor Lautner isn’t a naturally strong guy, but his career depends on becoming brawny. Between the first and second Twilight films, his character grew into a powerful werewolf. That meant he needed to gain 30 pounds of muscle in a year. Which he did.

Think about that: Taylor Lautner used to be a 5′10″, 140-pound, bony teenager, and now he’s a rippledfitness animal. If he can overcome physical shortcomings, anyone can. “Inexperience works to your advantage,” says Jordan Yuam, Lautner’s trainer and the owner of Jordan’s Virtual Fit Club. “The less muscle you have, the easier it is to gain muscle mass more quickly.”

Your strategy: Eat right and follow a smart, strategicworkout regimen. “Maximize your genetic potential,” says Yuam. “There’s no reason you can’t gain pounds of muscle in a year.”

Lautner is counting on it: The third movie in the Twilight series is due out in mid-2010. “My character continues to grow,” he says, “so I’d like to pack on at least a few more lean pounds.”

Here’s how to follow Taylor Lautner’s lead and build strength at frightening speed — without working like a dog.

Push your limits To grow large, your body needs to become comfortable with heavy loads. “That’s why I had Taylor ‘taste’ a much heavier weight,” says Yuam, who would stack a bar (or use dumbbells) with about 40 percent more weight than Lautner could normally lift 10 times. So if you can lift, say, 120 pounds 10 times, go with 170 pounds. Then, using a spotter, perform only the lowering half of lifts. (”It’s critical that your spotter be strong enough to lift the weight back up by himself,” Yuam says.) For a bench press, that means slowly lowering the weight to your chest. This lets your body adjust to the new weight even before you’re ready to raise it. The move is taxing on your muscles, though, so limit your “tasting” to 2 or 3 sets of 5 reps every other week.

Vary your volume Heavier isn’t always better. To maximize gains, Lautner regularly varies reps and the amount of weight he lifts. “If you want a balanced body, you have to do that,” says Yuam. The more your muscles are forced to adapt to a new routine, the more they grow. Instead of always doing 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps, for example, occasionally reduce the weight and shoot for 4 sets of 15 reps. A recent study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that men who regularly varied their rep counts and trained different muscle groups increased their bench strength by 28 percent and their leg-press strength by 43 percent.

Create tension Free weights are best, but they have a drawback: Some parts of a lift are easier than others, so your muscles aren’t being worked consistently. That’s why Taylor Lautner often attaches giant rubber bands to a bar or dumbbell he’s going to lift, and then anchors the bands to the base of a power rack or a pair of heavy dumbbells. “The bands create more tension, making the lift harder and forcing your muscles to peak out at the top of the movement,” Yuam says. As a result, your body recruits more muscle fibers and works them harder, accelerating growth. Bands are available in most gyms.

Robert Pattinson Single, Again

December - 11 - 2009 Comments

Enough with the back and forth and conjecture…it’s an easy question. Single or Not. Apparently it is true. Hopefully this is the last I will ever post, this week, on this topic! So whoever is lucky enough to be his next leading lady, this is the kind of fun you can expect from the Man.
robert-pattinson-licking-anna20281292

According to the actor himself, Robert Pattinson, though extremely busy, is both single and available. A recent piece published in Italian Vanity Fair gets the British movie star to talk about his life and about how he is completely and utterly misunderstood.

“I am single — almost everything that comes out about my private life is false.” says Pattinson in the high-profile magazine, talking about who he is. “I think it happens because, really, there is not much to say about what I’m doing. While I am filming, I live practically like a recluse in a hotel.”

Robert Pattinson may live like a recluse, but the New Moon star doesn’t have to continue that lifestyle in temporary housing. The heartthrob made bank on the latest Twilight movie and with the next one being released in about six months should provide enough money to buy the now-famous actor at least a condo, but probably more like a mansion, in which to enjoy some time off. So, Robert Pattinson, stop being a workaholic and put some more fun back into your life.

Chaske Spencer Sets the Record Straight

December - 11 - 2009 Comments

There has been a whole lot of talk over Chaske Spencer’s rehab, addict status prior to his role as Sam Uley in “New Moon.”  You can read on to see what Spencer wrote on his website. He does admit to having been in rehab, but the story coming from his own mouth has some major differences than the stories printed across various websites. Read on to check it out!

twilight-new-moon-wolf-packChaske Writes:

“Personal Message from Chaske Spencer Setting the Record Straight

To all the wonderful, incredibly loyal fans:

For those of you that read that I was in rehab, I wanted to make sure you heard the truth from me directly. Yes it is true, that I was in rehab, however it was over 19 months ago, long before NEW MOON was even on my radar. It was a pivotal time in my life where I was lucky enough to have supportive friends and family to help me get healthy. I am grateful that I have been clean and sober now for 19 months and cannot imagine my life if I had continued using drugs and alcohol. Almost everything else that was written about this is blatantly false and we are exploring our legal options. That was my past, and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to create a new future for myself. I encourage anyone who is in a similar place to seek support from their friends and family and know that without them, I would not have had the chance to be where I am now.

I want to thank all of you for the support you have shown, and continue to show. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Chaske “
